Get me out of Greece

Yesterday I came back from Greece. It never felt better to be back home!

Athens, the capital of Greece can be described best as big ash tray with ruins around it. Two days visit tops. If you are there, check out the Acropolis, go see the ancient Agora and run the hell out of there. Remember, in any circumstances, don't stay at hotel Parnon!

The islands are different story, but for someone who already lives in the most beautiful island in the world, the only way is down (baby).

If you thinking about vacationing in Greece, think twice. If you still convinced you want to go there, good luck to you. I rather stay here or even go to Turkey.

Here are some free advices from someone with a limited experience as I. Try to skip the crowded islands if you can. Greek islands are too commercialized, too crowded and too expensive. Better choose an isolated island which is usually ignored by tourists. It's cheaper, quieter and chances you won't see anyone you know.

I went to an island called Kalymnos, on the Aegean sea close to the bigger island Kos (emek).

Kalymnos is a real haven for relaxation and tranquility. The reason is, there is nothing much to do in Kalymnos but to appreciate the fact that you are here and not in any other of the Greek islands.

Unless of course, if you are a climber. (I am not)

Kalymnos is the Mecca of mountain climbers. If you are in Kalymnos and you wonder where all the tourists are, look up on the mountains and you'll see them. Like human spider hanging on ropes under the cliffs.

I know that as this post go on, it more and more look like a commercial for Greek islands, it's not!

The Greeks are actually very nice people but what's the deal with all the smoking?! Cigarettes are so yesterday's thing. People in Greece smoke everywhere. When the government tried to ban smoking or raise tobacco prices, people went to the streets and threaten to kick in the butt anyone who stands between them and their ashtray. Some people call it addiction, I call it love. which is something worth fighting for but this is definitely not the right moment to talk about it.

  1. ‘Kos (emek).’ XD!!
Actually, I heard northern Greece is actually beautiful. Have you visited there?
When I think Greece, I think ‘that evil Fascism-prone place where Iceland sends refugees that has all those online pervs’. And Alexander the Great. Yeeeaaahh... I like Alexander the Great. He and I share a birthday :D

  2. Glad to see you back here, 9uy! I'm sure I would choose one of the more quiet places, too. The most important thing I seek during a vacation is peace. Perhaps that is one reason that I never take vacations. My life is quite peaceful here.
